Can't assign control to Reaper

Hi,

I'm looking forward to use DAWIT, it's exactly what I need to control reaper with my phone in live situations. Simple, customizable, and not wifi dependent!

But I'm having troubles getting it properly connected to reaper. In the preferences of Reaper DAWIT is enabled as midi in and out and control. But I can't add it as a control surface under 'preferences : control/surface/web', it doesn't show up in the 'add'-list. I tried to use Mackie Control Universal, no luck.

Reaper does receive midi from my phone. When I open the MIDI learn function in Reaper, and move a fader in DAWIT, the command appears with the corresponding channel and CC, eg 'MIDI Chan 1 CC 63'. But I can't get it to actually control something... What am I missing?

I'm on windows 11, Reaper 7.3, and android 11.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Reaper but I can explain the usual method which is not DAW dependent.
When the mobile phone is connected as a MIDI device to a computer, every DAW can communicate with it as every MIDI device does.
You said "In the preferences of Reaper DAWIT is enabled as midi in and out and control."
You don't need to use Mackie Control or HUI etc (in Cubase it is Generic Remote Control). Also you don't need to connect your MIDI output back to android phone. You only need the MIDI input !
After this, all remaining steps depend on Reaper. I suppose that Reaper offers a way to assign MIDI commands onto Faders etc.
The following video might help you get an idea. The video made with Cubase but I think that in Reaper must be something similar

Thanks for the swift response!

I think I do everything as it should. So I connect my phone, don't assign a midi-out, and assign my phone as midi input AND control. Or should this be only input, or only control?

So in reaper I then open the Action List and look for Track: Set volume for track... (MIDI CC only). I select the track I want to control and under the Shortcuts for selected action: section, I click Add... I then move the fader in DAWIT and the corresponding midi channel and CC appear in Reaper, so it's assigned to the action 'set volume for...'. So far so good. Now when I move the fader in DAWIT, the fader in Reaper should move (and the other way around). Except that it doesn't. Frustratingly enough, yesterday it did, for a couple of seconds, but since then I wasn't able to replicate this succes. What am I doing wrong?

I found this video below which explains the basic functions of Controllers in Reaper. Watch it in case you missed something.
As I can see you must have the Control function enabled too.
And don't forget: " Every time you connect your phone and open DAW IT, you must select the available MIDI port.
It is annoying but Android works this way.

Allright, I figured it out. Everything was working as supposed, but i was assigning the control message to the wrong action.....

I assigned it to 'adjust track send 1 volume' but it should have been 'track: set volume for track 01'

Working like a charm now, I feel a bit dumb, should have figured that out sooner (know your DAW!), thanks for your time!!

Glad you found the solution.
Cheers !!!
